QUICK LIST OF SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES FOR TEACHERS, PARENTS, AND COMMUNITY LEADERS

  1. Feature the national anthem as an important part of your ceremonies and concerts.
  2. Use MENC’s teacher resources at to teach the National Anthem and other patriotic music.
  3. Discuss The National Anthem Project with administrators and encourage them to include the anthem as a part of the regular school day.
  4. Encourage your local leaders to include singing the anthem before meetings and events. Request resolutions and proclamations of support be passed supporting The National Anthem Project. (Visit www.tnap.org for resources.)
  5. Work with local representatives of National Anthem Project Supporting Organizations (http://www.thenationalanthemproject.org/programpartners.html) such as the Girls Scouts, American Legion, Reserve Officers Association, etc. to plan events in your communities.
  6. Speak and present materials at your local school board meetings about the important role music teachers play in passing American heritage on from one generation to another.
  7. Contact local radio stations and encourage them to play the anthem at noon each day. When you hear it being played, don't be afraid to stop and show respect for the song.
  8. Write a column about The National Anthem Project for your local paper. Talk to local newspapers and encourage them to publish the words of the anthem.
  9. Contact local sports teams and ask if you or your students can lead the crowd in singing the anthem before a game. Encourage them to print the words in the program so the crowd can sing along.
