The Burke Band played the national anthem directed by Linard McCloud. The Burke High School Flag Corps presented the Colors and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Nancy McGinley, lead the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  She spoke of the historical event that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the words to The Star Spangled Banner on September 14, 1814 two years into the War of 1812. Elementary Schools from Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary, directed by Ann Cheek, James Island Elementary directed by Renee Sims, Mitchell Elementary directed by Oscar Rivers and Buist Magnet school directed by Todd Monsell closed the ceremony by singing the national anthem with the Burke High School Band.
