Susan Ferdon shares their event at the Kipling School:
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, 5th graders spoke for a few minutes, providing historical information about the events that inspired the writing of our National Anthem. The 350+ in attendance then sang The Star Spangled Banner and “became” the flag that flew over Fort McHenry. Music teachers had created a full size replica of the flag, using paper instead of fabric, and it was laid it out on the gym floor. Pieces of the flag were lifted and children filed in underneath. When all were in place, we sang You’re a Grand Old Flag. Following the event, each class was given one of the stars from the flag to keep as a souvenir.

Morton College announces the arrival of the Star-Spangled Banner Classroom – a space that moves away from traditional white walls and numbing fluorescent lighting and toward facilities that facilitate learning. The Star-Spangled Banner Classroom has blue carpet with white stars, walls completely covered with red and white stripes and information describing the history of this historic song. These classrooms are splashed with color and pictures and demand the student's attention.

Nadine Konfirst is the music and art teacher at St. Jude Catholic School. The school ended Mass with the National Anthem and then went out into the school parking lot and a professional photographer climbed up on the highest roof and helped us form the actual flag flown during the War of 1812 when Key wrote the words to the song. Following the picture we walked over to the front of school and raised our school flag and the National flag and said the pledge.
