Furman Middle School
Sumter School District Two in Sumter, SC, held its National Anthem Project on Sept. 15, 2008, at the American Legion Post 15 in Sumter, SC. Mayor J. McElveen presented the proclamation from the City. Clerk of Court presented the proclamation from the County. Master Sgt. J.F. Kennedy sang "God Bless America." S.C. Sen. Phil Leventis spoke. John K. Long from U.S. Sen. J. DeMint's office spoke. Our Superintendent, Dr. Frank Baker spoke. Deborah Horton, choral director from Crestwood High in Sumter, directed the 300 students from both High Schools and 2 Middle Schools. Both High School ROTCs presented the colors. The students sang "A Salute to the Armed Forces" and the Star Spangled Banner. Linda Beck, Choral Director at Furman Middle School in Sumter, SC, organizes the project in Sumter each year.
Jonesville Middle School
The Jonesville Elementary and Middle Schools participated in National Anthem Day. The middle school music appreciation class made a brief presentation on the morning news program and led the student body in the sing along. The elementary school students wore red, white, and blue to celebrate and a teacher assistant lead the students in a sing a long during the morning news program. Music teacher is Edelyn Moore.
