The followup feature on this board isn't working to well. This is a reply to Christie. I'm a first year classroom music teacher and have been working in my schools to get the national anthem learned by all. It is very hard to get young voices to sing it. What I do is have them echo the words in a speaking voice to me in rhythm. After that I go through how we stand and where we direct our attention. I have the kids listen to it on the curriculum CD and ask them to try their best. Luckily, most will sing most of it on key without me even asking.
