I have had so much fun with this project. I believe I have turned into a master storyteller as I describe the events surrounding the writing of The Star-Spangled Banner. To keep their interest, I try using big hand gestures and varying the volume of my voice to emphasize different things.
My 5th grade students wanted to know more about Francis Key Scott, so I ended up giving them an assignment to google him and bring the info to the next class.
The pride that this song brings has also inspired my students to attempt to write a school song! I think that is going to turn into a competition! Thanks for bringing this project to life!
